Irving Cliff is named after Washington Irving, author of “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Irving visited the area in 1841 was so amazed by the cliff that he had to climb it. The cliff rises 300 feet above the town of Honesdale and provides views of the historic downtown district.
It is a 1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail featuring beautiful wildflowers. The trail is best used from April until October. It’s a short hike straight up and down. Bring your doggy, too.
The trail is relatively steep (wear good footwear) but clear and wide. You’ll get a beautiful panoramic view from the top. There’s a large grassy area great for a picnic or to relax and view the town below. It’s open year-round, but the best times to visit this trail are April through October.
“Beautiful overview of Honesdale. You drive up to the top and there are some picnic tables and benches for you to take in the view. No restrooms are on site. The area is well maintained and clean. Great spot to enjoy a bite to eat or a place to stretch your legs as a stop along the way to your destination. Stop by and enjoy the view of this awesome overlook!”
