Mauch Chunk Lake, with its sandy beach and great fishing, is part of Mauch Chunk Lake Park, which includes the lake and the Mauch Chunk Campground. The spectacularly beautiful 345-acre lake is an excellent spot for fishing and boating. This is what the Pocono Mountains are all about. Swimming and picnicking are available, and you can reserve a canoe, kayak, paddleboat, paddleboard, or rowboat.
Fishing is great. There’s a fishing pier; the lake is stocked with Walleye fingerling. Fishing is permitted anywhere along the shoreline with the exception of a 100′ buffer zone around all sides of the swimming area. Fish in the lake include catfish, chain pickerel, muskie, large and small-mouth bass, perch, bluegill, crappie, walleye, and some trout. Boating is limited to boats with electric motors and un-powered boats.
You can hop on the Switchback Railroad Trail into downtown Jim Thorpe, or spend the day hiking its trails.
