Little Falls Trail is a 1.2-mile moderately trafficked loop trail located in Promised Land State Park that is good for all skill levels. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 30 minutes to complete.
Named for the numerous waterfalls on this part of the East Branch of the Wallenpaupack Creek, this trail is very picturesque. A footbridge that’s .25-miles up the trail allows users to access the other side of the creek. Combine this trail with other trails nearby for a longer hike in the park or the adjoining Delaware State Forest.
It’s a really fun little trail along the stream with lots of tree roots and rocks to navigate, including hopping from rock to rock to avoid the mud and water. Great for kids. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
This is a popular trail for birding, fishing, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on a leash.
It’s a gentle path follows a pleasant brook with multiple (namesake) little waterfalls before reaching a bridge with an overlook. Though the signage at this fork in the trail seems menacing (“Trail ends here! Turn back if you have no cell service!”), if you cross the bridge and follow the blue blazes up the other side of the brook, you’ll follow the loop portion of the trail for a slightly more interesting experience than the out-and-back. Regardless, download a map before you go; cell service is spotty at best, and you don’t want to ruin your vacation by getting lost in the woods.
“Rocky and muddy but well marked and scenic. Parked on the right just after the bridge/dam. Trail is a loop with a bridge at end to circle back, or you can continue with the Big Dam Ridge Trail (which I did). This Little Falls hike was short but worth the stop!”
