Pine Grove Cottages at Beach Lake is nestled in a cool lakeside pine grove just 8 miles west of Honesdale. The place is the very manifestation of a 1950s Hollywood director’s cottage-in-the-woods fever dream. Quaint and adorable cottages are little houses in the pines set to the backdrop of gorgeous 135-acre spring-fed Beach Lake.
Most cottages have two bedrooms with a queen-sized bed in one room, two twin beds in another, and a pull-out sofa. The full kitchen includes pots and pans, dishes, a toaster, silverware, and a coffee maker.
Each unit has heat and air-conditioning, and a living room with a sofa bed and cable TV. In front of each unit, there is a porch with chairs and a charcoal grill, and a picnic table under the trees.
Each individual cottage sleeps six people and is like a little house in the woods. They’re fully furnished for housekeeping, but bring your own linens and towels!
Amenities consist of a playground, a game pavilion, an outdoor pool, and Pine Grove Cottage’s private beach, as well as complimentary use of lake equipment. Rowboats, paddleboats, kayaks, and sailboats are all free to use. Fish from the boats or the docks. Swim the crystal clear no-motors mile-long lake.
When it comes to stocking the kitchen for your vacation, you’re in luck. Head one mile up the road on Saturday between 9-4:00 pm and get your bread and pastries from the artisanal European-style bread makers at Beach Lake Bakery. Budget your Saturday afternoon time well and venture 6 miles west into the Catskills for produce, meat, fresh-cut flowers, homemade pies, wine and hard cider, and more. Next up, drive 6 miles to New York’s Narrowsburg Farmer’s Market, open May – October, every Saturday from 10 am – 1 pm, rain or shine. You won’t be sorry.
Take a day trip by driving 15 miles to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the 1969 site of the Woodstock music festival. Grab live comedy and music or stop into their Woodstock museum.
Take the country roads for a short drive home to Pine Grove with your shopping finds to fire up the grill for the fish you caught earlier. Settle back and watch the sunset close the light on a perfect day.
