This Millrift Waterfall Cabin hosts 2 guests in 1 bedroom and 1 bath deep in 45 acres of a lush oak forest on the bank of Bushkill Creek. It’s an Airbnb ‘Guest Favorite’ brought to you by Superhost David. It’s made it to the “Top 5% of Homes” on the list. It’s beautiful, private, serene, and very remote – and just 90 miles from NYC.
The Bushkill Creek originates from a mountain spring at an elevation of about 1500 ft. From there, the cabin is the very first home on it’s course. It is, therefore, the highest in elevation of any home on the creek. Here the water is untouched, full of brook trout when in season, and extremely cold. The creek draws an array of wildlife, from otters to owls, even an occasional bear.
Beneath a canopy of oak, hemlock and tulip poplar, the cabin’s wrap around deck is the perfect platform for relaxing to the sounds of the falls, grilling, chilling, reading, writing, surfing, strumming, yoga, and more. Inside, the intimate living / dining room features a wood burning stove, hardwood floors, and the original wall slats that were milled from hemlocks grown on the property.
Amazing activities, wondrous sights, hearty food and drink are available. The cabin is located near “Stairway Lake”, a spring-fed lake, home to some really heavy large mouth bass, and a spectacular view of the valley. Accessible by foot only, you can hike there straight from the cabin, or shorten your trip by driving to one of three nearby trailheads.
The magnificent Delaware River is just a few minutes downhill and offers amazing scenery, river trips (kayak, canoe, or tube), and more great fishing. The river continues through Delaware Water Gap National Park which features some REALLY impressive waterfalls, great hikes, and a bike path that traverses the entire park. The historic village of Milford is peppered with attractions including Grey Towers, antique stores, and galleries. There’s even a local history museum celebrating the town’s role in launching the US Conservation Movement.
“My partner and I had an absolutely lovely weekend of cooking, hiking, jumping in cold streams and building fires next to a roaring private waterfall. David was a gracious host, quickly responsive and helpful, and the space is curated warmly. There is a guest book where people share their stories and gratitude, and it’s no surprise there are many happy repeat-guests. We certainly will join those ranks within the next few months and are already planning our return trip. Highly recommended for any overworked folks who need to reset with a nature getaway.”
