The Joseph M. McDade Recreational Trail spans a 32-mile long corridor that runs nearly the length of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River.
“A park-spanning multi-use path that rewards visitors with dramatic landscapes and exceptional views.”– Kristen Arendt
McDade Recreational Trail in the DWGNRA provides visitors with ecosystems, landscapes, and trail experiences. It is exceptionally easy to travel, thanks to its crushed gravel surface. The trail offers miles of uncrowded, easy to moderate hiking.
There are 14 parking areas spaced along the route which makes it easy to pick a spot, and then walk the length of trail that’s best for you.
The National Park Service funds a free weekend shuttle bus service that stops at many of the major trailheads along the route. There are shuttles from the town of Delaware Water Gap to Milford Beach and the connector shuttle from Stroudsburg to the Delaware Water Gap. To view the schedule, click here.
Tip: There are no concessions along the route. Bring the water you’ll need along with you. Bring food and enjoy a picnic with a glorious backdrop.
