On Route 507 Fall Foliage Drive, leaf peepers can hop in the car for a scenic cruise. This drive runs alongside Lake Wallenpaupack, making for breathtaking views as the deep blue of the lake and contrasts with the blazing red and orange hues of the trees. Much of this scenic road hugs the eastern shoreline of Lake Wallenpaupack. At its terminus, with Route 6 in Hawley, you can park your car and walk the Observation Dike, or just sit on a bench and take in the lake views.
“Take Route 507 around the south side of Lake Wallenpaupack, aka Lake Wally. While the waterfront area is jumping during the warmer months, make sure to visit in the fall – especially mid-October to early November – to see the region’s burst of changing leaves...
About eight miles away, make your final stop at Promised Land State Park. After fueling up at lunch, visit the 3000-acre forested park to take in more dramatic fall foliage, and stay for a leisurely hike on one of its trails surrounding creeks, rustic cabins, and a glacial lake.”– Lonely Planet
From Hawley, travel south, still on 507, down the entire length of the east side of the lake.
The Travel Channel ranked Route 507 as one of its “Best Fall Foliage Road Trips.”
Along the way, pop into Wallenpaupack Brewing Company for a craft beer and a burger.
The foliage around the Big Lake is a must-see during the fall. Continue down Route 507 into Greentown to experience the scenery of the central color zone on Route 390.
