The Hawks Nest Lookout
- 546 NY-97,
- Port Jervis 12771
The Hawk’s Nest is a scenic location outside Port Jervis, New York high above the Delaware River on New York State Route 97. Its name is derived from the birds of prey that nest in the area. The location is also known for its winding roads and scenic overlooks in the Delaware River Valley.
Stunning Delaware River views and S-shaped curves make it one of the most beautiful drives in America. It’s a beautifully scenic stretch high above and alongside the Delaware River in Port Jervis, NY about 70 miles from NYC. Definitely try to visit during the week to avoid crowds and park with ease. Autumn is beautiful here.
It’s been on many car commercials for its sporty curves hugging a stone cliff face but nothing beats the actual experience of carving through those curves on a motorcycle. Stop at the numerous scenic overlook rest areas and take in the great view. Above is the sunset near the summer solstice. You can look down several hundred feet on the beautiful upper Delaware River and its unspoiled natural beauty.
“If you have a motorcycle Hawks Nest should be on your bucket list. Plus if you travel down the road a bit, Rohmans Pub in Shohola PA is well worth a libation stop.”
