Monroe County Conservation Camp

Monroe County Conservation Camp has taken place for a week each summer for over 40 years. This activity-filled residential camp gives 30 students, ages 14 to this year’s high school graduate, the opportunity to work with experts from throughout the county and fellow campers to gain insight into natural resources and their proper management.

The camp is held in late July and utilizes the student-owned East Stroudsburg University Stony Acres Recreational Facility in Marshalls Creek as a base camp. Conservation Camp is a non-profit venture designed to expose students to the fundamentals of conservation in meaningful, exciting, and thought-provoking ways. It’s held by Monroe County Conservation District.

If you have a teenager (female or male) consider giving them the opportunity to attend and enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities, work together on pond and stream quality projects, partake in an overnight river paddle, and learn about and develop a conservation ethic from the best.

Teenagers will be participating in a variety of hands-on and classroom programs. The campers are exposed to many aspects of the conservation and natural resource fields. Highlights of the week include archery, herpetology, soil and land use, confidence course, muzzle loading, a community farm tour, wildlife rehabilitation, and a two-day canoe trip on the Delaware River.

The Monroe County Conservation Camp is held at the student-owned Stony Acres Wildlife Sanctuary and Recreational Facility in Marshalls Creek. Directions to the East Stroudsburg University-owned complex: From I-80 take the Marshalls Creek Exit (exit #309) onto Rt. 209 North to Marshalls Creek. At the T-intersection, make a right and immediately get in the left turning lane. Turn left at the traffic light onto 402 North, go a short distance and take left fork at firehouse onto Creek Road approximately 5 miles. Look for Stony Acres sign on left.
