Shuman Point Hiking Trail is in the Shuman Point Natural Area. It’s 300 acres located right on the shores of Lake Wallenpaupack. This slice of natural Poconos paradise is one of the last areas on the lake that hasn’t been developed. The Shuman Point Hiking Trail is a 3 mile loop that runs along the northeastern corner of the lake.
This scenic adventure provides some of the best hiking near Hawley and is the opportunity to experience the flora and fauna of the area up close. The trail is a bit rocky, so wear the right shoes.
For most of the hike, the trail will follow near the lake. Take one of the very short side trails over to the lapping waters for a very impressive view overlooking Lake Wallenpaupack.
The loop hike through the natural area starts from a large parking area on Purdytown Turnpike and is the area’s most popular attraction. Since it’s considered an easy hike (and it’s dog-friendly), it’s also the perfect addition to any family vacation in Hawley. Trails branch from either end of the parking lot, but most find it easiest to hike in a counter-clockwise direction, which is to the right of the parking area.
“Was such an awesome hike! Took 2 hours but I had my 2yr old and 4yr old and they hiked the whole thing. There are a few different spots where you can sit by the water which is really nice. Definitely recommend! It’s an awesome workout.”
