It’s Time for Trout Fishing in the Poconos! Opening day in 2023 is April 1 at 8 am. Fishing hours are 24 hours a day after the 8 am opener on April 1.
The minimum size trout you can keep is 7 inches. In addition to a fishing license, which you can get in a jiffy here, trout anglers 16 and older need a Trout Permit, too. When you apply for your license, make sure to get your Trout Permit!
Pocono waters are stocked with brown, rainbow, and brook trout, with an average size between nine and 11 inches. Colorful brown and brook trout are also native to many of the region’s rated streams. Native trout are slightly smaller, ranging between six and eight inches. In Pennsylvania, trout must be at least seven inches long to keep. The inland daily creel limit on trout is five fish (combined species) during the regular season. Visit the PFBC Trout Season overview page to view regulations and learn more. The Pennsylvania state record for brown trout is 20 lb., 9 oz.
Licenses are not required at pay lakes in the Pocono Mountains like Effort’s Big Brown Fish & Pay Lakes or Cresco in Barrett Township’s Paradise Fishing Preserve.
