Villa Roma Resort

Villa Roma Resort is so old-fashioned it’s practically retro. Slip back into the history of the Catskills, sorta. You can choose the resort package with meals or a lodging only package.

They’ve got a lot to do, including nightly shows, a Social Director by the Name of Doc Holiday (wha?), an indoor sports complex with a fitness center, a bowling alley, bounce houses (wha?), and racquetball.

There are heated outdoor pools, a water slide, and a children’s pool available from Memorial Day through the 3rd weekend of September. There’s also an indoor pool.

They’ve got 11 places to eat and drink, and this is really going back to the 60s.

Oddly enough, they offer timeshares. There’s a game room and an OTB Parlor(?) They’ve also got a ski hill with a chalet that seems to include one of those 11 places to eat. Oh, yep, it’s called the “Ski Chalet Snack Bar & Lounge.”

Accommodations are one and two bedroom “Efficiency Suites” with little kitchens, deluxe rooms, lodge rooms, and traditional rooms. They’ve all got cable TV, irons and hair dryers, WiFi, and housekeeping.

“My family decided to give Villa Roma a second shot but it will be our last. This year we booked a 2-bedroom efficiency and it was absolutely filthy. Gunk on the walls (see photos), marker on the upholstery, general musty smell. We woke up to ants all over the kitchen and it took someone about 6 hours to deal with it. We started with one roll of toilet paper and five bath towels total – for six people – but couldn’t get through to the front desk or service desk by phone so we had to go downstairs once to ask for more and then a second time two hours later when we were still waiting.

The blankets are threadbare and there are no comforters. Temp was impossible to manage – one bedroom would be freezing and the other would be like a sauna.

TV didn’t work (and should be a SmartTV at this price point). Most things in the arcade were out of order. Bowling alley is cash only but there’s no ATM.

One thing was good: the employees.”

“Phones, television, and room card don’t work with no knowledge from staff when they will. The rooms don’t even have a small refrigerator, iron, or coffee maker for its guests. The worst hotels I have visited had at least the bare minimum for comfort. Never again. You should be ashamed and offer your guests partial refunds.”
