The Browning Beaver Meadow Sanctuary offers 78 acres of quiet natural beauty. With 2.5 miles of hiking trails through hemlock forests and hardwood glens and along creeks and shorelines, the sanctuary’s scenery makes for a perfect trek. It’s just 25 minutes north of Honesdale.
Wildflowers and birds abound along the trail. There are two new parking areas and a wheelchair-accessible observation deck that overlooks a large pond where waterfowl and beaver can be seen. Directions: From Honesdale, take Route 191 north 16 miles. Turn left at the Lookout General Store on Helmer’s Hill Road. Go 0.8 mile, and turn left at the sanctuary sign on Hawley Road.
The Browning Beaver Meadow Sanctuary is free and open daily to the public from dawn to dusk.
