Bruce Lake Natural Area

Bruce Lake Natural Area in Greentown offers about 2,900 acres of land to explore. Miles of trails lead through the natural area, which is part of the Delaware State Forest.

It features miles of trails, streams, diverse forests, large wetlands, and two lakes, Egypt Meadow and Bruce Lake. Egypt Meadow, with its meandering shore, bays, and coves, is a favorite of paddlers willing to carry or tow by hand their boat in from the parking area. Bruce Lake is the gem of the natural area- a lake formed by glaciers, completely spring-fed with clear water. Both lakes are undeveloped and can only be reached by hiking. Both are very scenic.

Hike Bruce Lake Road to a natural glacial lake, see the waterfalls along Little Falls Trail or walk a loop around Conservation Island. Splendid opportunities exist for nature study, relaxation, and exploration. The forests of the park consist primarily of beech, oak, maple, and hemlock trees.

This loop is fairly easy with level and rolling terrain. It is one of the more enjoyable loops in the Poconos. The trails are in good shape, although some spots are wet or brushy. Various trails intersect this loop, where there are posts identifying the trails. Bruce Lake is a must-see since isolated, undeveloped, natural lakes are so rare.

The trails cross through thick forests and diverse wetlands. The Bruce Lake Trail leads to the crystal clear waters of a pristine glacial lake. Continue on to Egypt Meadow Lake, where you might spot a busy beaver or dazzling dragonflies. The trails are moderate in difficulty, with some rocky and wet areas. Dogs are welcome as long as they’re on a leash.

In the winter, the trails are ideal for cross-country skiing.

Two parking areas are located along PA-390. You can also access the trails from Promised Land State Park, which is connected to Bruce Lake Natural Area.
