The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, based in Jim Thorpe, will once more partner with Pocono Biking in 2025 to present the very popular Bike Trains. A mainstay of the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway schedule for over a decade, the railroad is proud to continue to offer this one-of-a-kind experience on select weekends during the spring and summer.
The Bike Trains provide a change of pace for visitors to the area on multiple fronts. Bicyclists of all ages and skill levels bring their pedal-powered vehicles to Jim Thorpe station to take on the 25-mile Delaware and Lehigh trail south from White Haven.
Bikes of all shapes and sizes are safely loaded and stored on specially designated railcars at the front of the train, while passengers ride in Standard Coaches northbound the entire length of Lehigh Gorge State Park. Upon reaching White Haven, the railroad’s friendly staff assists passengers off the train and reunites them with their bicycles to begin their journey back to Jim Thorpe. As they glide along the gentle downhill path and wind through Lehigh Gorge State Park, bicyclists encounter canal remnants, scenic overlooks, rock formations, abundant wildlife, and even railroad trestles.
Tickets for this experience, referred to as “one-ways”, are priced at $39 each.
Guests who are not interested in bicycling but are seeking a longer train ride than that of the regularly scheduled Lehigh Gorge trains may purchase round trip tickets. The approximately 3-hour, 50-mile round trip from Jim Thorpe to White Haven and back offers visitors a chance to see the Lehigh Gorge State Park in both directions in all its glory. Round trip tickets are priced at $39 for adults and $19 for children aged 3-12. Children aged 2 and under receive a free ticket to ride round trip.
