Upstream Wine & Spirits
Upstream is a thoughtfully curated wine and spirits shop in the charming Western Catskills hamlet of Livingston Manor. They specialize in sustainable, organic, and biodynamic beverages that taste good. They also sell swimming-hole-friendly cans of rosé. Catch up and share stories from the week while sitting in the river for a few hours until the sun disappears.
Small producers and natural wines are a focus. Brooklyn refugee Meg McNeill sells orange wines, wines from Georgia, wines made from under-appreciated grapes like grolleau—and uses beautifully written descriptive tags to tell the story of each. Saturday afternoons, a local gin or hard-cider producer is likely to be hosting a tasting.
On a Friday night, everyone in town will seem to be in this small store to stock up for the weekend. Here, you’ll find great small labels represented at various price points. The friendly staff is helpful and will help you sort through to find just the right rose.
They hold weekly tastings on Saturdays from 2-5 pm. “The more you drink, the more you learn.” Owner Meg McNeill has a lovely wine bar a few doors down at Sunshine Colony.
