The Central Color Zone pops up on October 20. OR SO THEY SAY.
Here in northern Monroe we see gold leaves popping out on the golf course and in our own backyard.
Okay, it’s Ocober 10 and we’ve still got lots of gold leaves, but waiting for many more to change. October 20 is looking good!
The Central Zone encompasses southern Wayne, Pike, and northern Monroe Counties including Bushkill Falls foliage and more. Sweet Birch and Spice Bush have begun to yellow as Ferns are starting to redden or brown. The Solomon’s Seal and Sarsaparilla have turned mostly yellow, and the Sugar Maple is starting to display early spots of red/brown. Oak species are still holding their green color.
There are more than 127 varieties of trees, shrubs and plants in the Pocono Mountains, making for famously beautiful fall views for drivers, hikers, and cyclists alike.
A great places to see the early changes is Pecks Pond. Look for more exposed areas such as mountain peaks, lake perimeters, and field edges to see the most color. Full color is at 15-25% with 80% of the leaves on the trees. The projected date for peak color is October 20 – OR MAYBE SOONER. We’ll keep you updated!
