Peekamoose Blue Hole is a deep swimming hole to cool off in. There’s a rope swing for the bold and daring and plenty of scenic picnic spots. It’s open from sunrise to sunset.
Under the new no-cost permit system, visitors to the Blue Hole are required to obtain a permit on weekends and holidays from May 15 through October 15 every year. DEC will issue up to 40 permits per day and each permit allows entry for up to six individuals, including children, allowing for a maximum of 240 people to access the Blue Hole each day. Permits must be acquired at least 24 hours and no more than one week, in advance. You can get your permits here.
You can cool off from NY’s warm weather and dive into this swimming hole. This deep swimming hole is the perfect spot to work on your favorite dive, while escaping the humidity in the middle of a Catskills forest. Rondout Creek pours through a rock gap to create a deep swimming hole. This swimming hole also offers many great spots for relaxing in the sun or set up a picnic to grab a bite and relax. If you’re feeling brave, there are a few good ledges to jump from in the deeper area as well as a rope swing.
To get there: From Sundown, NY, head 10 miles on Route 42 until you see a large parking area on the right with a sign for the Peekamoose Mountain area. Follow the signs from the parking area to the creek. Swimming Hole Coordinates: (41.9182, -74.4215)

“Absolutely beautiful location for any hot summer day to take a swim, or any cold winter night to start a campfire. I personally believe that this is one of the best hidden gems in all of New York State. permit is required in the summer months for camping. Please carry out all garbage that you bring as this area has recently received a lot of foot traffic.
